Mongolia, the Country of the New Yokozuna, Asashoryu

Asashoryu, who is from Mongolia, plays an active role as a Sumo wrestler. In fact he has achieved the status of Yokozuna. When he went back to Mongolia, many people welcomed him as a "new" hero who was promoted to Sumo's highest rank of grand champion. It was covered on Japanese television and in the news.

Don't you think that Mongolians look very similar to Japanese? There is a sport similar to Sumo in Mongolia! Also, Mongolians wear very beautiful clothing made out of lovely fabric!

What do you know about Mongolia? It has a very large desert and the people of the desert use a portable dwelling called a "Ger". It is also the country of "Genghis Khan", the architect of the Mongol Empire.

Come and join us this month at our Coffee Hour if you want to learn more about this country. In addition anyone who is planning on traveling to Mongolia is warmly encouraged to attend.

This month's guest speakers are Mr. Gonchigzeveg Tenger, a representative of the Mongolian Tourism Board in Japan, and Ms. Vasar Tsevelsuren, his friend. They will share with you the many faces of Mongolia, including the climate, history, culture and important tourist information.

Date/Time: April 23 (Wed.) from 14:00 to 16:00
Guest: Mr. Gonchigzeveg Tenger and Ms. Bazar Tsevelsuren
Place: Tsukuba Information Center
