Take a nostalgic ride on a steam locomotive between Tsuchiura and Mito on January 16. Or better yet, set your camera up along some scenic spot next to the Joban Line and wait for it to go by. It's a rare opportunity, as such special "SL" rides are usually reserved for off-the-beaten-path train lines, and even then, only once a year or so. It is scheduled to leave Tsuchiura Station at 11:56 am and after numerous stops along the way to let the normal train traffic by, it will steam into Mito at 1:35 pm..
