The annual open house for the National Laboratory for High Energy Physics has their annual open house on Sunday, September 15 from 9 am to 4:30 pm. The theme is "Looking Into the Science of the 21st Century", and numerous displays, exhibitions, and lectures (in Japanese, of course) are scheduled.
Located several kilometers north of the University of Tsukuba off of Higashi Odori, there is ample parking available for those who drive up, and for those without transportation, there is a free shuttle bus from Tsukuba Center. The first bus leaves at 8:40 with buses following every 10 minutes until mid morning, when they begin tapering off to one every 15 minutes and then after 11:30, only once every half hour, with the last one leaving at 2:30. The return buses are the reverse, with the first bus leaving at 11:00 with frequency gradually increasing until by 3 pm it reaches the once every 10 minutes stage. The last bus leaves at 5 pm. If you want to see some really impressive science machines, this is your opportunity.
