The Ibaraki Chapter of JALT (Japan Association for Language Teaching) is pleased to announce its Global TIES project for 1998. The goal of this project is to promote educational and intercultural exchange between Japan and other Southeast Asian countries. In 1998, our first year, the Ibaraki Chapter will welcome Ms. Suchada Nimmannit, a teacher-trainer from a major university in Bangkok, as our Global TIES guest. Ms. Nimmannit will be in Japan from November 13th to the 22nd. During her stay in Japan, Ms. Suchada Nimmannit will be making visits to schools and other groups in the Ibaraki area. She will also present a paper at the JALT International Conference '98 on the present English language teaching situation in Thailand and on ideas for maximizing student talk in the classroom.
The International Women's Network (IWN) is a group of women who enjoy chatting with people from all over the world. We hold a monthly potluck dinner where we exchange information about the local community while eating a variety of foods. No reservation is needed to attend the potluck. Just bring one dish of food and show up at the meeting. Newcomers are always welcome! Take advantage of this unique opportunity to enjoy the international city of Tsukuba with us!
