Mount Tsukuba Shuttle Bus

There is a shuttle bus that runs from Tsukuba Station (Tsukuba Express) to Mount Tsukuba. It stops at Tsukuba Shrine (40 minutes) and Tsutsujigaoka (50 minutes). (It is not possible to take the bus from Tsukuba Shrine to Tsutsujigaoka.) If you want to climb the mountain from Nyotaisan, get off at Tsukuba Shrine. If you want to climb from Nantaisan, get off at Tsutsujigaoka.

The fare is 700 yen for adults and 350 yen for children to Tsukuba Shrine and 850 yen for adults and 430 yen for children to Tsutsujigaoka.

From Tsukuba Shrine, you can take the cable car, which costs 570 yen for adults and 290 yen for children (one way). From Tsutsujigaoka, you can take the ropeway, which costs 600 yen for adults and 300 yen for children (one way).

Mount Tsukuba Festival

During the Mount Tsukuba Plum Festival (February 17 to March 21), take the bus to Tsukuba Shrine and walk to the plum orchard (3 minute walk). The bus will stop at the entrance to the plum orchard on the way back at the following times.

  • Weekdays: 9:10, 10:10, 12:10, 13:10, 14:10, 15:10, 16:10
  • Weekends: 9:10, 9:40, 10:10, 10:40, 12:10, 12:40, 13:10, 13:40, 14:10, 14:40, 15:10, 15:40, 16:10, 16:40

Also, on February 18, 24, 25, and March 3, there is an express bus from Tsukuba Shrine to Makabe Doll Festival (Makabe Station) leaving at 12:00 and 13:30. You can catch a return bus at 12:45 (to Tsukuba Shrine), 14:05 (to Tx Tsukuba Station), 15:10 (to Tx Tsukuba Station), 16:00 (to Tsukuba Shrine), 17:15 (to Tx Tsukuba Station), 18:27 (departs from Makabe Gym and goes to Tx Tsukuba Station). The fare from Tsukuba Shrine to and from Makabe is 200 yen. The fare from Makabe to Tx Tsukuba Station is 800 yen. The bus stop at Tsukuba Shrine is at 筑波山神社大鳥居下 and it is a five minute walk from the plum orchard. http://www.kantetsu.co.jp/new/umematsuri/index.htm
