Recently, the TIS Board of Advisors approved a new tuition fee structure for the 97-98 school year. This new tuition fee structure is different from the previous fee structure in that tuition rates are now based solely on each individual family's income while here in Japan. During the application process, each family completes a family income worksheet in order to determine what their individual tuition rate will be. Tuition rates start at ¥44,944 per month with some very limited additional financial aid available to families who find even this rate too expensive. It should be noted that TIS is a totally non-profit organization. Unlike some other international schools, TIS is not a business and does not gain a profit from student tuition payments. Most tuition rates at TIS are actually well below cost in that it costs TIS more to educate one child than the tuition rate that the family pays for that child. TIS does not yet receive any financial support from the government and depends on private donations and volunteers in order to keep tuition rates at the lowest possible level.
If you have any questions about TIS or would like more information, contact the school office at 43-0770 or Melissa Ishio at 51-3395.
