Tsukuba University Offers Art Classes

As part of its regular program of "open classes", Tsukuba University is offering evening classes in pottery that are open to the public. There will be a beginner's class on Wednesdays beginning April 10, an intermediate class on Mondays beginning April 8th, and an advanced class on Tuesdays beginning May 7. Classes will be held from 5 to 8 pm April 10 to June 7 (except May 1) for the beginners, April 8th through June 19 (except for Ap. 29 and May 6) for intermediate, and May 7 through Sept. 17, with a break from June 25 through August 27. Class size will be limited to 30 (25 for advanced), and if there are more applicants than that, names will be chosen by lottery. The cost for the entire program is 8700 yen. Applications must be received by March 21 (beginners and intermediate) and April 12 (advanced) at the university office handling that function (located on the 7th floor of the main administration building ?? "Kokai Koza Kakari"). Also take with you a self-addressed, stamped envelope.

There will also be classes in "Sumi-E" (black India ink on paper) and oil painting. Registration will be limited to 30 each, with oil painting divided into 2 classes of 15, one each for beginning and intermediate levels. Classes for Sumi-e will be held on Thursday evenings from 5 to 8 pm beginning May 9 and running through June 27. The cost for the entire program is 7700 yen. The oil painting classes will be held on Wednesdays from 5 to 8 pm beginning April 24 and ending June 26, with a total fee of 8,700 yen. Applications must be received by April 5 and12 respectively, in the same manner as above.

The sports department is also offering "kyudo" (archery) and "kendo" classes both beginning May 11. The kyudo class is open to 40 children (junior high and above) and adults, and is held on Saturdays and Sundays May 11 to June 2 from 1:30 - 4:30 pm each day. The kendo class has limit of 60 and is open to anyone above the third grade in elementary school. It will be held on Saturdays from 1:30 - 4:30 pm from May 11 to June 29. The fee for either is 7,700 yen, with the application deadline being April 15.

The rules are the same as the other "Kokai Koza", and applications must be submitted by April 28. Questions can be directed to 53-2216.
